Web Access and File Sharing

One of the most powerful features of Mantis DocSafe is the new level of access you have to your data. You can use our Secure Web Portal to access your online data backup files remotely from any web browser.

This means you no longer need to lug your laptop home for the weekend just to work on your files. You can instead use your home computer to log into your secure account using a web browser. Simply download your file and work from anywhere.

With the Mantis DocSafe web based file sharing system, you also have the ability to share selected files or folders with colleagues and friends. You can mark individual files or entire folders as sharable in the Web Portal. You can then assign a unique password to each file or folder share.

Giving colleagues access to individual files does not mean they have access to the other files in your Mantis DocSafe web file sharing system. They can only see the files you have shared with them. You can choose not to share the files at any time.

Once shared, you can email the secure web based file sharing links to others. The other person simply clicks on a Web Link in the email and logs in to download the file. Using this feature, you can easily share large file attachments with people who have very limited inbox space.

System Requirements

Mantis DocSafe (powered by Data Deposit Box™) runs on almost any Windows PC with an Internet connection.

Data Deposit Box™ was designed to work on a wide range of Windows PCs. Anything from Windows 95b all the way up to Windows XP, Windows Vista and 2003 Server are supported.

Though backups work best on a high speed Internet connection, many customers are happily using Data Deposit Box™ on dial-up or accelerated dial connections.

Our Backup Software is small and efficient so that it can run easily on older Home PCs. For example, if you have an old Pentium PC running Windows 95 with 64Mb of RAM, you should be fine.

Our software has been tested to work on the minimum configuration recommended by Microsoft for each version of Windows. If you are happy with the performance of your system today, the backup will not degrade your performance.

The backup software was also designed to be compatible with home and office hardware firewalls. To a firewall it just looks like a web browser. If your PC can surf the web, you should have no trouble using our backup service.

Tech Note: The web portal uses HTTP and HTTPS on ports 80 and 443. The backup client uses a proprietary protocol that looks to a firewall like SSL on port 443.

Data Deposit Box™ is compatible with these programs. When you first install our backup software, you may see a pop-up security alert from your firewall software saying that a program BACKUP.EXE is trying to access the Internet. You should be prompted to "Permit" or "Deny" this program access. It is important that when you see this message you say "Permit".
